openSuse
The openSUSE project is a worldwide community program sponsored by Novell that promotes the use of Linux everywhere. The program provides anyone with free and easy access to the world's most usable Linux distribution, openSUSE Linux. openSUSE is an easy to use and install distro with YAST configuration tool to ease your package maintenance and upgrades. YAST is also used for setting up new hardware and all other configuration tools like your dialup and firewall. Suse Professional reverted to the name of Suse Linux, then was split into openSuse and SLED/SLES, the latter being the commercial version of Suse. For the beginner to advanced user.
Fedora
The Fedora Project is a Red-Hat-sponsored and community-supported open source project. It is also a proving ground for new technology that may eventually make its way into Red Hat products. It is not a supported product of Red Hat, Inc. The goal of The Fedora Project is to work with the Linux community to build a complete, general purpose operating system exclusively from free software. Development will be done in a public forum. Cutting edge technology. For the intermidiate to advanced user.
Ubuntu
Ubuntu is a Linux distribution that starts with the breadth of Debian, a clear focus on the user and usability and a commitment to security updates. Ubuntu ships with the latest Gnome release as well as a selection of server and desktop software that makes for a comfortable desktop experience off a single installation CD. Kubuntu now released for those who favour the KDE window manager. Ubuntu and Kubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) is available in either desktop or alternate editions.
Debian
The Debian Project is an association of individuals who have made common cause to create a free operating system. This operating system is called Debian GNU/Linux, or simply Debian for short. Debian systems currently use the Linux kernel. Of course, the thing that people want is application software: programs to help them get what they want to do done, from editing documents to running a business to playing games to writing more software. Debian comes with over 16000 packages (precompiled software that is bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine) - all of it free. It's a bit like a tower. At the base is the kernel. On top of that are all the basic tools. Next is all the software that you run on the computer. At the top of the tower is Debian -- carefully organizing and fitting everything so it all works together. Now with a very user friendly installer in Lenny. We offer the first DVD needed for the install. For intermediate to advanced users.
